Classic cocktails have been all the party scene rage for a few years now. Some hand crafted concoctions can really make a memorable event. More and more people are choosing to entertain their guests with a cocktail party style gathering. If you go the classic cocktail route there are 2 major directions you can go.
1. Classic Means Classic- don’t mess with perfection.
This drink was a favorite of American expats during Prohibition. Prior to then it was known as the Milano-Torino, for the cities where its two main ingredients were first made: Milan (Campari) and Turin (sweet vermouth). There are many great drinks with great histories and flavors you might actually like. Back During prohibition the booze was often bad tasting. These cocktails were invented to make bad booze taste good. Fast forward to modern times and use some good liquor and now you have a winning recipe. 2. Classics Reinvented – Modern twists on traditional favorites.
The Paloma is a classic Mexican cocktail made with lime juice, tequila and grapefruit soda. Scott Baird, the mixologist who created this drink for Comal in Berkeley, makes his version with smoky mezcal, fresh grapefruit juice and Cocchi Americano, the sweet Italian aperitif wine. Taking an old recipe and making slight changes to tweak its style is a great way to craft as custom cocktail perfectly tailored to fit your event. A fun way to present classic cocktails is with a “then & now” style showcase. You can feature both classic renditions of your favorite cocktails and also serve newer reinvented version of the same drinks.
